Dinghy-Racing.com.

The aim of this website is to create a home on the web for the amazing story of the development of the racing dinghy. Although primarily focused on dinghies designed in the UK, the site will also feature the best dinghies from around the world, be they sailed in the UK or not.

The story of the racing dinghy would be nothing, if it were not for the antics and activities (not all of them recordable) of the people who designed, built and sailed these boats and in doing so, laid the foundations of the global sport that dinghy sailing is today.

Merlin Rockets, new and old, will be a regular feature as they carry so much of  dinghy sailing history along with them in the class, as do the International 14s.

The 14s will be vying for top spot in the 'great photos' section with another modern classic, the 505

And just to show that the site is not just about the top performance dinghies, another popular favourite will be the evergreen British Moth.

So, dinghies old and new, sailed just as hard by the not so young as by the top youth sailors.

Have you, or your boat, got a story to tell? If so, then contact David Henshall at dinghy-racing.com to make sure that YOUR story is added to the archives!

National Racing Dinghy Archive

The story behind the development of the sailing dinghy runs back into the late 1860s. Since then, the sport has changed from being at elitist pastime for weekends, to a sport accessible to all across the globe.

Sadly though, much of the detail that forms the story is being lost, as the great sailors that did so much to bring dinghy sailing to the people pass away. One of the objectives behind dinghy-racing.com will be the formation of a National Racing Dinghy Archive, where pictures and details of the boats can be stored, along with the recorded memories of the top sailors, sailmakers and boat builders.

Help create the archive - NOW.

If you have a boat that is no longer sailed, or details from the past of how a class came into being, let dinghy-racing know  via the website.
